Definitely needed cleaning :0

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t think I ever introduced my PC that browses Oppo, gaming and movie editing.

Built it in 2013.

Intel 2700K @ 3.5 Ghz 3.9ghz turbo boost (yeah I got a turbo :P) I over clock occasionally, but not lately.

Asus P8Z77 V Pro motherboard with USB 3.0, tablet control

8GB G Skill RAM 1333mhz 8-8-8-24

Zalman CNPS 120mm Omega CPU cooler

500GB WD Black HDD for storage. Samsung 840 Evo OS, games, etc

AMD Radeon 7870 1gz by XFX (been replaced by their free lifetime warrenty)

Seasonic 650w PSU gold rated with hybrid fan (only runs when it needs to, which I never did. Fan does work though )

NZXT fan controller and NZXT Hue LED system. I can make any color I want.

All in a Corsair Vengence V70 case.

Super quiet even with all 5 fans running.

All clean :D

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

One of the best PSU you can buy.

Kinja'd!!!

I use Corsair 120mm fans. Super quiet and interchangeable color rings.

Love that case. My desktop is about two years older, so I really should clean out the inside...

I had a Corsair Graphite case before that with AMD insides. The inside was as big as a New York apartment :P

I have the Cooler Master CM 690. It demands blood when I do anything with it.

I got one on the front intake, but it only gets like this once a year.

Big case with a ton of room!

Mine is jam packed in comparison.

Are you sure your PSU fan never runs? I have a similar unit (just newer) and the fan usually does run, just slowly and quieter than the other fans in the box.

I’m thinking about building an incredibly budget PC if I can. I don’t game I just want something functional.

And I’m cheap lol.

Like $300 or less cheap.

Think it’s do-able?

Up to 648W on 12V... great googly moogly. I’ve started throwing together a micro ATX workstation-and-also-games machine, and its garbage came-with-case alleged 300W power supply can’t even reliably do 180W on 12V.

Those Zalman coolers look amazing. How well does it keep the cpu cool?

Awesome system!

That’s really not that dirty, all things considered.

Kinja'd!!!

My current main system is a bit of a dust magnet. It doesn’t look too bad here, but, take the front panel off...

Kinja'd!!!

This was after 4 months of everyday use.

Kinja'd!!!

Here it is mostly clean. Air flow is a lot better now.

Well it depends on what you intend to use it for.

For things to stay away from, I’d say anything that’s suspiciously cheap (barring sale items) and unknown brands with no support.

Also, check out the site pcpartpicker.com the put together a hypothetical build.

It never goes over 36 C. Around 27C when idling. It’s great. It’s developed a slight rattle noise, so I keep the RPMs a bit higher

I usually only think to clean out my case when it starts being really noisy when running CPU/GPU intensive programs. I should probably preemptively clean the damn thing out, but I need to get more compressed air, too. That shit's expensive.

I’ve been goofing around on pcpartpicker since last night lol

I’ve been working on an intel dual core laptop with 4gb of ram for 8 years now at home.

I do the occasional photoshopping and indesign from home but that’s about it these days. Other than that I just want to not waste 10 minutes waiting for either firefox or chrome to load up.

From scratch? The OS is around $100 right there, so you are building a $200 PC. AMD would be the best CPU for non gaming. Their CPUs have built in graphics chip so no external card needed.

Just off the top of my head in prices that I think it would cost

CPU and MB about $120, RAM $30, PSU that comes with the wires $50 - $70, CD drive to install windows $varies, you can get that cheap on eBay, Case, $varies, and CPU cooler $20 or free if you want the crappy one that comes with the CPU.

I’d budget a PC for entry level around $400- $500 that way you can get what you want without cheaping out and spending more in the long run.

ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte are good motherboard brands.

It runs, theres a setting that makes the fan only run when it is under load and my PSU is rarely ever under load to where it needs to be on.

Cute. I cleaned out a server case once that had quit running and was actually full of dust and lint. Completely full. Once I blew it out, it began working again.

Have you seen the PC sticks? I had never heard of one until recently when I saw a comparison on lifehacker.

Google makes one for $85 and there was another made by Intel(?) for $125(?)

They plug into any screen with hdmi. Just need (Bluetooth for Google) mouse and keyboard. not sure if you can get a cheaper OC than that.

That’s my desktop. Pair of Xeon E5's with 32gb of RAM. I guess I should preface that by saying that I do all inclusive video production. Everything from the titling to any coloring to the videos. Of course, being only two years out of college it’s not my day job, but I built this machine because I was a commuter student and really didn’t want to wrestle with the school’s computer labs that were basically not maintained at all. I have a pretty substantial collection of camera gear for filming as well, this summer I’m looking at trying to do at least 2 shorts and continuing work on what’s felt like a never-ending project for me.

I think I might lean to a factory refurbished system.

Because I’m not really building something powerful, it may be cheaper that route.

Meh, the current laptop hasn’t been mobile for at least 3 years. battery became a rock and i never decided to update it. It’s a 17" with 1600x900 resolution so it’s not exactly the most mobile anyhow lol

It’s been plopped in one location pretty permanently.

I’ll look into it though and see if there’s a good deal
